Lana Del Rey Announces New Album ‘Lust for Life’

March 30, 2017 by

Yesterday, Lana Del Rey dropped an official trailer via Twitter with the caption “My new record, lust for life, is coming soon“. The black and white visuals show the retro, yet socially aware songstress perched within the H of the Hollywood sign, concocting music as a witch would assemble and perform a spell.

In the most Lana-esque fashion, she describes making music fantastically, shooting us and the camera her trademark sultry eyes. She says: “So each morning, I have the luxury of asking myself, “What shall I cook up for the kids today? Something with a little spice? Something with a little bitterness but is ultimately sweet? Or shall I take the day off and turn down the fire, and just take a moment to send my love to them over the ether?” You can check out the full trailer for Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album, Lust for Life, below:

Even though we don’t have an album release date from Lana Del Rey, we think soon could mean next month. We’re not sure as to who will appear on Lust for Life, but a recent ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) crediting leads us to believe that Lana Del Rey’s collaborations with The Weeknd didn’t end with “Stargirl Interlude”. Abel Tesfaye and Lana Del Rey, both respectable pop crooners, are the perfect match for making more slow, seductive music together.

Love“, the first single from Lana Del Rey’s forthcoming Lust for Life, is a dreamy, slow-burning track about kids falling in love and bonding over music. “Love” was quickly followed with sci-fi inspired visuals, a video that brings Lana Del Rey’s vintage aesthetic up against fantastical, ecstatic truth of being young and in love. The video was a perfect match for the song’s vibes, and has us really excited about the other universe elements Lana Del Rey has built for her fifth studio album Lust for Life.

When it comes to the mood of Lust for Life, we’ve consulted an interview between Lana Del Rey and  Jo Wiley from BBC Radio 2. “I started out thinking that the whole record was gonna have a sort of a ’50s-’60s feeling, kind of some kind of Shangri-Las, early Joan Baez influences,” she explained. “But I don’t know, as the climate kept on getting more heated politically, I found lyrically everything was just directed towards that.” This isn’t surprising, considering many artists are using their work to speak to the current political climate. But what does this mean for Lana Del Rey, who hasn’t used her work to exercise her social consciousness?

She continues. “So because of that, the sound just got really updated, and I felt like it was more wanting to talk to the younger side of the audience that I have. I guess it’s a little more socially aware. It’s kind of a global feeling.” From the official Lust for Life trailer, we would guess that the vibe of the album reaches more from decades past than the present. But if she has found a way to do this musically while remaining relevant and timely in her lyrics, then we think Lana Del Rey has, yet again, landed on something truly great. So When will Lana Del Rey release her fifth studio album Lust for Life? We’re hoping sometime this season. In the mean time, keep your eye our for more new singles from one of our favorite, female pop songwriters, the amazing Lana Del Rey.
